Wanda Cahill Brown, 90, of Salado, Texas, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Temple, TX. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas on November 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm with
Broecker Funeral Home of Salado in charge of arrangements.
The only child of Minnie Sikes Cahill and Edward Dunlap Cahill, Wanda was born and grew up in Brownwood. Immediately after graduation from high school she began a 34-year career in telephony at The Southwestern States Telephone Company. That company later merged with General Telephone Company of the Southwest (now Verizon).
Wanda married Warren Brown in Brownwood on May 25, 1968. He was also employed by the telephone company and following their marriage, they lived and worked in Memphis and Brownfield, Texas, prior to transferring to the company’s San Angelo headquarters office in 1971. They worked in San Angelo for the remainder of their careers, taking early retirement the same day in 1987. Wanda held various clerical and management positions and at the time of her retirement was the Customer Relations Supervisor.
Wanda was a life member of the Independent Telephone Association and a member of the Concho Valley Telephone Pioneers Club. She and Warren loved dancing and were long time members of two San Angelo dance clubs and co-hosted an annual western dance. They enjoyed cruising and touring extensively in the I/S. and other countries during their working and retirement years until Warren’s death on May 24, 1997.
After residing in San Angelo for 36 years, in 2007 Wanda moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas, to be near her son and his family. They invited her to move to Salado and live with them, which she did in 2014. Nothing gave her more joy than being able to see all of them daily and be a spectator as her grandsons excelled in school and sports.
Wanda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ty and D’Lynn Brown of Salado; grandson’s Reece Warren Brown of Arlington, TX and Mason Lant Brown of Salado, TX; sister-in-law Maxie Brown Sewalt and her family; and two life-long special friends: Carole Headrick of Midland, and Virginia Sanders of Hurst, TX.
Family visitation will be from 2 – 4:00pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Broecker Funeral Home.
