Services for Stanley Staples will be Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM, Presbyterian Church of Salado, with Rev Carl Thompson officiating. Stanley Norman Staples died at his home on September 12th after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 2, 1931 in Dallas, TX to Earl and Essie Mae Staples. Stanley was a graduate of Abilene Christian College where he was a member of the 1950 nationally undefeated football team awarded 3 consecutive Texas Conference Titles from 1950-1953. He was named an All American Football Player, later drafted and played for the Philadelphia Eagles. After football years, he entered the University of Texas where he acquired a Law Degree, then practiced law in Midland, Texas, for over 25 years. He retired from his law practice and lived near Ft. Worth. Stan was know for his dry humor, always seeming to have the last word in a conversation, and enjoyed the challenges of games - especially with his family. He was a loving husband, father "Pappaw" to his family. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Staples of Salado, daughters Susan Smith of Houston and Sandra Smith of Brenham. His beautiful extended family consists of 6 stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, and one brand new great granddaughter, born 24 hours before his death. He is preceded in death by Betty Jane Crownover Staples and his brother Kenneth Staples. A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 11 AM at the Presbyterian Church of Salado. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor an be made to Gentiva Hospice of Central Texas, 2626 BS 37th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.
