Shirley Ann (Mc Entire) Lett Obituary

Shirley Ann McEntire Lett, 88, passed peacefully at home on August 11, 2025, surrounded by the family she loved so fiercely. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on September 25, 1936, Shirley’s life was one of warmth, service, beauty, and a steadfast devotion to the people and places she called home. Shirley grew up in Pine Bluff before making her way to Louisiana, where she began her career as a secretary at the Vernon Parish School Board office. It was there that she discovered her passion for teaching, a calling that would shape the rest of her life. Earning her master’s degree in Special Education, Shirley began her teaching career in Louisiana, where she also met the love of her life, John Randal “JR” Lett. The two built their life together in Killeen, Texas, where Shirley continued teaching until her retirement. During her years in Texas, Shirley visited Salado for the first time and was instantly charmed by its Main Street. From that moment on, she stopped at nothing to make it her home. In Salado, she found not only a place to live but a place to belong, and she embraced her community wholeheartedly. Shirley’s work as an educator was only part of her story. She was deeply rooted in her community, pouring her energy into her church, local organizations, and the people around her. She served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, took pride in hosting and attending the Fine China Luncheon, and never missed an opportunity to bring beauty and celebration into a room. And while the Fine China Luncheon was “just for fun” on paper, Shirley approached it like the Super Bowl, her table settings were legendary, her centerpieces could stop traffic, and she was known to quietly (and sweetly) make sure no one outshone her place settings. A gifted decorator, Shirley had a flag and wreath for every occasion, turning ordinary days into moments worth noticing. She loved fashion and carried herself with grace and style, always with her hair perfectly set, makeup flawless, and nails done. If you saw Shirley without these things, it was your first clue that something was not right… and you might want to start checking her temperature. Her garden bloomed with her beloved knockout roses, and at home, she doted on her “baby dog” Mackie, who was never far from her side. Her love was steady and wide-reaching, spanning across her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who became family along the way. She is survived by her husband, John Randal Lett; her children, Eugene Edwards Jr., Jeff Edwards (Susie), and Angela Edwards Capello (Tom); her stepchildren, Jessica Lett, John David Lett (Jennifer), and Kendra Fultz (Matt); her grandchildren, Justin Edwards, Lauren Burke (Lucas), Michael Edwards (Dana), Matthew Edwards, Tommy Capello, Joseph Capello, Rylee Lett, Alyssa Lett, Eric Lett, Ashley Lett, Evan Lett, Ethan Lett, Ainsley Lett, Nolan Fultz, Maggie Fultz, and Garret Fultz; her great-grandchildren, Lily Edwards, Logan Edwards, and Camden Burke; along with many other beloved family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Salado, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. Shirley lived with purpose, faith, and style, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will continue to bloom, like her roses, for generations to come.
