Obituary for Sharon Louise Simmons

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sharon Louise Simmons, who left this world on March 31, 2026, at the age of 71.

Sharon was born on July 26, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland, where she spent her early years before moving to Texas in the early 1980s. In 1982, she married Lewis Mack Simmons and began building a life centered on love, family, and community. In 1989, she moved to Temple, Texas, and in 1996, she settled in Holland, Texas next door to her parents—a place she proudly called home for the rest of her life.

Sharon was a truly unique and remarkable woman, known for her kindness, strength, and the genuine care she showed to everyone around her. She lived a life centered on love—especially for her family, who meant everything to her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, always putting others before herself and offering unwavering support to those she loved.

Sharon dedicated 30 years of service to the VA before retiring and embracing the simple joys of life. Her greatest happiness in retirement was spending time with her beloved grandson, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.

She was deeply involved in her community, serving on the city council and actively participating in her daughter’s school activities over the years. Sharon was also a member of the Study Club, volunteered with the Food Pantry, and was always ready to lend a helping hand through her church and community whenever needed.

In her quiet moments, Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching classic movies, enjoying The Golden Girls, cooking shows (especially Brenda Gantt), Survivor, and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved traveling to the beach each year, something she looked forward to deeply, and often spoke fondly of Port Royal—always hoping for one more visit.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah Davenport and her husband Jeremy Davenport; her cherished grandson, Tyler Jennings; her sister, Deberah Zill and her husband Jack; as well as extended family including Julie and Wilson Johnson, Matt, Meredith, Rosie, and Hamblin Johnson. She is also remembered fondly by her nephews, Trey, Phillip, and Buddy Zill.

Sharon’s legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Holland, followed by funeral services and burial. A gathering will be held at the church afterward for family and friends to come together in remembrance of Sharon’s life.
