Robert L. Allred, MD Obituary


Robert L. Allred, MD, age 75, died Saturday, June 14 at a local hospital with his wife and children by his side. He had undergone treatment for cancer in the previous six months.


Robert was born in Kansas City, KS, July 17, 1938 to Howard and Helena Allred. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduated from Cascia Hall High School, attended Vanderbilt University before completing his doctorate of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma. In 1962, while attending medical school, he met and married Carol Sue Owens.


After graduation, he served in the Public Health Service, with a residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit followed by an Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. He was a fellow during the time total hip and knee reconstructive surgery was introduced in the United States. In addition, he was one of the first orthopedic surgeons trained in arthroscopic surgery. He remained at the forefront of orthopedic surgery implementing new technics for over 40 years of practicing medicine in the Dallas metropolitan area, settling in Harker Heights, Texas in 1994.


Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his Lord, his Catholic Church and many Catholic organizations. He was a Eucharistic Minister, an active member the Serra Club for over 40 years, a lay Missionary of the Sacred Heart, and a member of the Roman Catholic Order of the Holy Sepulchre. He truly believed in sharing his love of God with everyone.


Robert is survived by his wife Carol, three children Paul and wife Caryn, Teresa and husband Kyle and Scott and wife Cheri and seven grandchildren Drake, Noah, Jewel, Andrew, Katherine, Kaitlyn and Robert. He is also survived by one sister Sharon and brothers Bill and Dick. One of the things he was most proud of was that in recent years, he always called his grandchildren in the morning before school, had a prayer with them and then encouraged them to be better today than yesterday


Services for Robert will be a rosary, Wednesday, June 18 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, Harker Heights starting with a visitation at 6PM and rosary at 7PM.


The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 19 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, Harker Heights starting at 9AM.


Robert will be interred in the Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas on Thursday, June 19 at 3PM.
