Robert Holburn Cottle


On Monday, January 30, Robert Cottle, 89, of Salado passed peacefully from this life into the next.


A Celebration of His Life will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Broecker Funeral Home.


Services will be Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2PM, St. Joseph’s Episcopal Chapel, 945 N. Main St., Salado with Fr. Bob Bliss officiating. Interment with military honors at Salado Cemetery will follow the service.


Bob was born in Everett, MA to Clyde G. Cottle and Mary H. Haggart November 26, 1922.


Bob attended West Haven High School; West Haven, CT , Randolph Macon Military Academy, Front Royal, VA and Northwestern University, Chicago.


Bob joined the Navy in 1942 and served in WWII until being honorably discharged in 1946.


Bob was married to Doris on November 14, 1946 in Shelton, CT


He started his business career as Asst. District Mgr. U. S. Mengel Plywood in Tampa, FL. After a series of progressively more responsible positions, he joined Formica Corp in Cincinnati, OH in 1954 as Vice President – Marketing. He then joined Parkwood Laminates, Inc., Lowell, MA as Executive Vice President then moved to Temple in 1973 to join Ralph Wilson Plastics as Vice President – Marketing. He was also Senior Vice President – Decorative Products Group for Premark International in Illinois.


Bob was very active in his industry. He was a trustee for the National Council Housing Industry, Washington, D. C., Director of Decorative Laminate Fabricator Association, Washington, D. C., and Director of National Architectural Woodwork Institute, Washington, D. C.


He was also President of the Ralph Wilson Employees Profit Sharing Trust, Temple.


His activities in the community included Director of Temple Family Services and Alternatives to Abortion, Temple. He was awarded the Silver Good citizenship Medal by the Heart of Texas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.


Bob was Chairman of Board, Trustees of Bell County Museum, Director Salado Chamber of Commerce, Salado Lions and Salado Cemetery Association.


Bob served as Sr. Warden and Vestry member at Christ Episcopal Church, Temple and later St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Belton.


Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister Barbara Conrad.


He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Cook and husband Vick, Plano, two grandsons, Dr. Jonathan McKinney, San Francisco and Christopher Dandridge, Los Angeles. He also has four step-grand children, Jennifer Warheit, Emily Utay, Scott Cook, all of Dallas and Dr. Craig Cook, Houston.

Services are in the care of Broecker Funeral Home of Salado.
