Phillip Dorn Derrick passed away peacefully in Salado, Texas, on February 22, 2025, at
the age of 79. He will be buried alongside his parents and his brother, Brad, in the
Salado Cemetery at a private service. Phillip was born July 12,1945, in Houston, Texas,
to Les and Morene Derrick. He was the youngest of three brothers. Phil grew up in
south Houston, attended Milby High School, and went on to play football at the
University of Texas. After graduation, he enjoyed working with his father in the family
business for many years. He also loved the time spent in several coaching and
teaching positions in Austin, Salado, and Belton school districts. His fun-loving nature
made him a favorite among the many students he coached and taught during his career
in education. He and his wife, Bettye, have been residents of Salado for over 35 years.
Through the years, Phillip enjoyed the enormous blessing of lifelong friendships that
spanned decades as well as years of fellowship and good times with his extended
family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Morene,
and his brothers, Les Derrick and Brad Derrick. He is survived by his wife of 38 years,
Bettye Derrick, his daughter, Stacey Burch, and grandchildren, Dylan, Cameron, and
Sydney, as well as many nephews, nieces, and extended family who loved him dearly.
Phil was a loyal and true friend, uncle, father, grandfather, and husband and will be
deeply missed. Special thanks to Broecker Funeral of Salado for handling the
