Norman Dobias Obituary

Norman Shorty" Dobias, 78, of Holland, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Sunday,  March 22, 2020, at his home surrounded  by family.

Norman was born on November 5, 1941, in Granger to John and Mary Dobias.  Norman graduated from St. Mary's  Catholic School In Taylor in 1961.   After graduation, he worked at the Taylor Daily Press. While  working  at the paper, he joined the U. S. Army National Guard, attended the National Guard Academy, and served 6 years earning the rank of First Lieutenant.. In 1966,  Norman and Bessie moved to Mesquite,Texas, where  he worked  for the local paper.  Eventually Norman  left the paper to go into the dry cleaning business.   After  many years, he sold his dry cleaning business and pursued a new career as an auctioneer.

Norman was a man full of life.   He is probably  most remembered  for his big heart, witty  humor,  practical  jokes, and tremendous   love for his grandchildren.   Those who knew Norman well  know of his  devotion  to the Catholic  Church and his love of food  and sharing it with  others to brighten  their  day.

Norman is preceded  in death  by his  parents, John and Mary Dobias;   his brother and sister-in-law  Dennis and Joyce Dobias of Holland; and his brother-in-law Norman  Kerlin of Rockdale.

He is survived  by his wife  of 54 years,  Bessie Rozacky Dobias; his daughter  Lori Kinard of Holland;  his daughter  and son-in-law  Monica and  Barry Ansley of Temple;   six grandchildren:,    Ashlyn Kinard,   Natalie Ansley, Rachel Ansley, Hannah Ansley,  Olivia Ansley,  and Nathan Ansley;  his sister Georgia Kerlin of Rockdale; and numerous  nieces and nephews.

Due to the coronavirus,  there  will  be a  private  burial at Calvary  Cemetery  in Granger with  immediate  family  only.  A Rosary and Mass will  be held at a later date.   In lieu of flowers,  the family  asks for those that  desire to make a donation to their  favorite  charity.
