Norman Shorty" Dobias, 78, of Holland, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.
Norman was born on November 5, 1941, in Granger to John and Mary Dobias. Norman graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School In Taylor in 1961. After graduation, he worked at the Taylor Daily Press. While working at the paper, he joined the U. S. Army National Guard, attended the National Guard Academy, and served 6 years earning the rank of First Lieutenant.. In 1966, Norman and Bessie moved to Mesquite,Texas, where he worked for the local paper. Eventually Norman left the paper to go into the dry cleaning business. After many years, he sold his dry cleaning business and pursued a new career as an auctioneer.
Norman was a man full of life. He is probably most remembered for his big heart, witty humor, practical jokes, and tremendous love for his grandchildren. Those who knew Norman well know of his devotion to the Catholic Church and his love of food and sharing it with others to brighten their day.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Dobias; his brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Joyce Dobias of Holland; and his brother-in-law Norman Kerlin of Rockdale.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bessie Rozacky Dobias; his daughter Lori Kinard of Holland; his daughter and son-in-law Monica and Barry Ansley of Temple; six grandchildren:, Ashlyn Kinard, Natalie Ansley, Rachel Ansley, Hannah Ansley, Olivia Ansley, and Nathan Ansley; his sister Georgia Kerlin of Rockdale; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus, there will be a private burial at Calvary Cemetery in Granger with immediate family only. A Rosary and Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for those that desire to make a donation to their favorite charity.
