Neva Joplin Obituary

On January 8 th , 2024, Neva Jo Joplin went to be with her Heavenly Father. She entered this world on December 30th,
1938, to Major Lee and Martha Howard. She attended school in Brownfield, TX. She met and married her loving
husband of 64 years, James Eugene (Gene) Joplin. She graduated Waylon College with a teaching degree and
taught students at Plainview High School for 8 years. She then worked for Exxon for 18 years, beginning with the La
Barge project and ending as an Executive Administrative Assistant. However, out of all her job titles, her favorite was
preacher’s wife which she proudly had for 55 years. She led a life in Christ which positively impacted numerous
people, and even in her final years she never stopped singing His praises and remained an inspiring influence to
those around her. No matter what you called her: Mother, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Granny, GiGi, Mama Jop, Jo, Aunt
Jo, Neva Jo & Friend; you knew she loved and cared for you. Her passions were her family, traveling, playing the
piano at church, golfing, playing 42, and solving crossword puzzles. She is proceeded in death by both her parents
Major Lee and Martha Howard, her loving husband James Eugene Joplin, son-in-law Curtis Smalley, brothers Euel
Howard, Freddie Howard, Johnny Howard, Neil Barrier, and sister Helen Gunn. She is survived by sister Dottie
Barrier of Brownfield, sister June and husband Dwayne Cornett of Meadow, son Mark and wife Becky Joplin of
Lubbock, son Marty Joplin of Andrews, daughter Marla Smalley of Temple, daughter Laranda and husband Ron
Eakin of FloweMmound, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, January 11 th at
Broecker Funeral Home in Salado from 10am -12pm followed by a graveside service at Little River - Wilson Valley
Cemetery at 2pm. The family asks in lieu of plants and flowers, that donations be made in memory of Jo Joplin to
Pioneers Missionary group (
donate?firstname=VisaFund&lastname=Hoeffner&projectcode=112198VF) to honor her legacy and continue the
Lord’s work.
