Nancy Ellen Preston (Greenup), 89, of Bartlett, Texas went to her heavenly home Sunday evening, July 17, 2022, surrounded by her family at home. Born on May 19, 1933 in Danville, Kentucky to her loving parents Russell Calvin and Cora Lee (Higgs) Greenup, Nancy was a beautiful, precocious child who remained captivating throughout her life. She was a 1951 graduate of Paris High School in Paris, Kentucky. On February 20, 1954, Nancy married the love of her life, Henry Clark Preston.
Nancy proudly embraced the terms of endearment bestowed upon her: Sweetheart by her husband, Mommy/Mom by her daughters, Ting Ting by her niece and nephew, Aunt Nancy, and the adored Mimi by her fiercely loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nancy’s brilliant mind and leadership abilities allowed her to excel in school as well as in everything she undertook. In elementary school she was asked to skip up a grade. In high school she was awarded a trip to New York City to sit in on the United Nations General Assembly as a winner of a national writing contest. Nancy was also modest: few people outside of her family and people in her hometown were aware that she was a gifted concert level pianist.
Nancy was a talented quilter and crocheter who made beautiful pieces for her family to cherish, a terrific Southern cook, a collector of recipes and cookbooks, an avid reader of current events and world affairs, a tireless community volunteer, and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She loved her native Kentucky, Christmas, Flag Day, and any opportunity to have her family get together at her home out in the country. Her hilarious sense of humor, keen wit, generous charitable support, kindness to animals, love of her home, and fierce devotion to her family and friends will be always remembered and profoundly missed.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Henry Clark Preston, daughters Nancy Clark Preston and Judy Preston Lowe, grandchildren Stacy Bondurant (Matt), Elizabeth Czimskey (Joshua Isbell), Steven Lowe, Corey Lowe, and great grandchildren Ford, Emerson, and Griffin Bondurant, Cora Elizabeth Isbell, Jordyn and Piper Rose Lowe. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother Calvin P. Greenup.
The funeral service will take place at 9:30 am on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Salado United Methodist Church’s Historic Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the service at 9 am. The family kindly requests masks to be worn in the chapel.
