Marilyn Lavon Pittenger Obituary

Marilyn Lavon Pittenger, 80, of Salado, died March 7, 2015 at a local care facility. Services will be Saturday, March 14 at the Church of Christ in Salado at 2:00 p.m., preceded by a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at North Belton Cemetery following the service. Joseph Keyes will be officiating. Marilyn was born February 21, 1935 to B. F. (Bernie) and Reta Sisk in Wichita Falls, Texas. The family moved to California in 1937 during the Dust Bowl and Depression era. They eventually settled in Fresno where her father later served for 24 years as a U.S. Congressman. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Fresno in 1952, attended Fresno Junior College, and worked as a bookkeeper. Marilyn met her husband, John, in July 1954 at the Yosemite Family Encampment, and they married September 23, 1955. Marilyn was a gifted volunteer, with a true servant's heart. She believed that God called her to feed the hungry, visit the sick, minister to those in prison, and clothe the poor. As a result, she was known for her hospitality and service to those in need. She taught Bible classes, coordinated church weddings, raised money for Christian education, and served in prison ministry, on a medical mission to Guatemala, and in many other church and community activities. Marilyn was an excellent seamstress, and also loved crochet, cross-stitch, and needlepoint. She used her talents to make many gifts for family, friends and those in need. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Bobbye Temple of Fresno, CA. She is survived by her husband, John Pittenger; daughter, Alenne Glock and husband, Norman, of Harvest, AL; son, Randy Pittenger and wife, LaGay, of Belton; five grandchildren, Jamie Carroll and husband Geoff, of Granbury, Emily Glock, of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Jason Pittenger and wife Katie, of North Richland Hills, Jana Schofield and husband Justin, of Dallas, and Daniel Glock and wife Teresa, of Spokane, WA; and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cherokee Children's Home or the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation. Broecker Funeral Home of Salado is in charge of arrangements.
