Marie E. Jackson, age 80, died Sunday, March 9 at her home in the presence of her children.
She was born June 22, 1933 in Chicago, Il to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Emilson.
She met and married William Eugene Jackson in Chicago while he was in the service. They were married for 43 years until he passed away in July 1995.
In the early stages of their life, they moved with the Army. While in Washington, D. C. Marie took a job at the United States Treasury Department. She soon became in charge of managing Foreign Trade Exchange, which was mostly property given by other countries in exchange for dollars. As a property manger, she managed millions of dollars worth of exchanged property.
She continued her career at Fort Hood Military Base with the Department of Defense. She eventually worked in Civil Service for 43 years with the Department of Defense (DRMO)
When William and Marie returned to Ft. Hood, she first lived in Harker Heights before moving to Salado in 1975.
Marie’s life in Salado was her involvement in organizations. She held virtually every office in the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Marie was named Chisholm Trail Chapter ABWA Women of the Year 2002, later retiring as president.
She was also very involved in the Salado Republican Women’s Club, an aggressive supporter of issues and receiving many awards for her activities. Her most prestigious award was the one given to her by Governor Rick Perry, her commissioning as a Yellow Rose of Texas in August, 2008.
She is known for her knitting skills as well as her bowling. She was on the State Champion team in 2000.
She was also a active member of the First Baptist Church, Salado where she taught the BYKOTA.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother and sister.
She is survived by her son Samuel and daughter Maudean, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
