Services for Leonard Lazarte will be on Monday, November 10, 2014, 10:00 AM at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Salado with Father Aloy officiating. Interment will be in Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:15 PM with Military Honors.
Leonard E. Lazarte died on Monday, November 4, 2014 in a Temple hospital. He was born August 1945 in Nabua, Camarines Sur, The Philippines to Felipe and Veronica Elgar Lazarte.
Educated in the Philippines, Leonard obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Texas.
A veteran of the United States Army, Leonard worked in the paralegal department of JAG at Ft. Hood.
He married Betty Cruel in Ft. Lee, Virginia. The couple was married for 37 years. Leonard retired from the United States Postal Service in Austin in 2009.
A member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church for 11 years, Leonard was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Salado Rotary and the Lions Club. His interests included traveling, tennis, gardening and bowling.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lisa and son, Lee both of Houston, TX; brother, Felipe Lazarte Jr. of California; and sisters, Lilian Fortuna and Lizabeth Remedio of the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Felipe, III.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Broecker Funeral Home 949 W. Village Rd., Salado.
