Our beloved mother and grandmother, Kathryn Nadine Weige Hegar, passed on May 26, 2025 surrounded by family, after her final bout with pneumonia. She was 87, born March 13, 1938 in Holland, Texas, graduating from Holland High School in 1956.
Kathy was the heart of our home and family. She and her husband Henry raised two daughters in Dallas, Sonya and Jill, in a happy and loving home to be independent and thoughtful adults. Kathy was married for 59 years to her high school sweetheart, Henry, who preceded her in death in 2019. As a grandmother to Randi (34), Travis (32) and Austin (28), she was a big part of their lives, attending all special events, and traveling extensively with each.
Kathy was known for never saying no to hosting a gathering, helping out the community, or taking on new and innovative projects as an educator. A believer in higher education, she received three degrees from the University of North Texas, including a PhD in Business Education. She worked as a professor for 36 years in the Dallas County Community College District teaching business and management courses, was a pioneer in developing course materials for television and online, and even starred in her television course series “It’s Everybody’s Business”! She made a big difference in her students’ lives and many returned years later to thank her for helping them to achieve their career goals.
After retiring from teaching, she and Henry moved back to Holland and were immediately involved in the American Legion Auxiliary (filling easter eggs!), Woman’s Study Club, Quilt Guild, food pantry, and many other Holland community efforts. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts and shared her talent with Sara Davis, her beloved caretaker for her last six years.
Kathy is survived by daughters Sonya Schneider and husband Fred, Jill Wood and husband Eiland, granddaughter Randi Wood, grandsons Travis Schneider and Austin Schneider, sisters Dorothy Mathieson and Shirley Sparks, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Henry Hegar, and parents, Lessie and Laura Weige.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Holland, Texas at 11 am on May 31, 2025, with visitation at the Broecker Funeral Home at 949 West Village Rd, Salado TX on Friday May 30th from 5 pm to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holland Volunteer Fire Department or Holland School District.
