Jon (Andy) Andrew Jackson Obituary

Jon Andrew (Andy) Jackson was born July 10, 1945, in Austin, Texas to Laurence C. and Mary Ruth (McAngus) Jackson.  He died early Friday morning, July 25, 2025, in a Temple hospital, two weeks after his 80th birthday.

Andy and Kay (Alsup) were married in Austin in 1968 and enjoyed 57 years together.  They were blessed with three children:  son Cary Jackson (and Norma Rios) of Austin; son Shane (and Sheila} Jackson of Katy; and daughter Summer Jackson (and Alejandro Magos) of Santa Barbara, California.

Andy and Kay moved to Salado 11 years ago to retire.  Instead, he found new ways to keep doing what he had done all his life: serving others.  Husband, father and much-loved brother and uncle, Andy lived a full life of Christian leadership, service, and compassion.

Andy was always adventurous, enjoying waterskiing, river rafting, motorcycling, and becoming a pilot.

An accounting graduate of Abilene Christian University, he attended law school at The University of Texas at Austin, while starting a career in banking.  He followed this career from Austin to Houston, earning a master’s degree in banking from SMU’s Southwest Graduate School of Banking in 1977.

Following his banking career, he began a new chapter in his early 30s as an entrepreneur, owning and managing such diverse enterprises as a roofing company, an off-road go-cart track, a plant nursery, a slot car racing arcade, and a Christian bookstore.

After many years of entrepreneurial adventures, Andy changed lanes yet again and started the third chapter of his career, working at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he was Purchasing Manager, retiring in April 2019.

A sixth-generation Texan, Andy was involved with the Salado Historical Society, where he served on the board of directors.  He was an avid student of history, reading widely and taking online college courses until his final year.  He and Kay enjoyed traveling, usually with family and close friends, visiting 49 states and many foreign countries.

Above all, Andy was a committed Christian.  He was a diligent Bible student, engaging Bible teacher and effective church leader.  He was an elder at the Salado Church of Christ, as he previously had been in Houston.

Andy was an elected alderman of the Village of Salado for 2019-21, sang in the Salado Community Chorus and worked for the betterment of his community.

A loyal friend, generous with his time and resources, he was a skilled listener – a counselor and confidant of many.

Besides his immediate family, he is survived by his two brothers, Larry Jackson and wife Susie of La Grange and Rick Jackson and wife Nancy of Lake Travis, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Family members will receive friends at a visitation period beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Salado Church of Christ.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with minister Joe Keyes officiating, followed by burial in the Salado Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by Broecker Funeral Home of Salado.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cherokee Children’s Home, in Cherokee, Texas.

Services are in the care of Broecker Funeral Home of Salado.
