Johnny was born in LaGrange, GA, February 16, 1941 to Corry and Louise Watson. He grew up in Franklin, Georgia and graduated from Heard County High School. He completed an Associate's degree from Columbus Junior College in Columbus Georgia, his BA in Education at West Georgia College, and his MEd at the University of Texas at El Paso along with several graduate classes at Baylor University. While attending Columbus Junior College, he met the love of his life, Peggie Ruth Metcalfe. They married in Hawaii on June 17, 1962. After graduation, he became a history teacher at Nolan Junior High School. He then transferred to Killeen High School as a History/Government teacher and was always willing to negotiate a grade if a student was willing to sing. His next calling was to become a school administrator, becoming the Assistant Principal of Nolan Junior High/Middle School. His love for children drew him to his next chapter as Principal of East Ward Elementary, followed by his final home at Bellaire Elementary. He dedicated a total of 34 years of devoted love for all of his students, teachers and co-workers with Killeen Independent School District. He was still frequently approached by his students still giving hugs and thanking him for always being a father figure they could look up to. Johnny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was devoted to his Lord, his Catholic Church and was always available to assist those in need. He was a Eucharistic Minister, Saturday night lector, singer, and active member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church for over 15 years. He strongly believed in sharing his love of God and how to be the best person you could possibly be by following the simple rules of good life. Johnny is survived by his wife of 53 years Peggie; two children Elizabeth Cerda and husband Francisco; Margaret Rivera and husband Jose; six grandchildren Kyle, Corie, Cason, Korinne, Carissa, and Joseph; and one great-granddaughter Kailyn. He is also survived by his cousin that was more like his brother, Billy Bearden and wife Catherine. Full of life, he was born to work for and with children of all ages. It was nothing unusual for him to strike up a conversation with a family at church, at the mall, or in a restaurant just to tell them how beautiful their children were or how much he enjoyed watching them. Johnny will always have a special place in many hearts with his larger than life personality. He had the gift of calming those who were stressed and in need of guidance. His warmth, jokes, and "words of wisdom" will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the St Stephen Church Building Fund. P.O. Box 662 Salado, Texas 76571.
