James Dorman was born January 18, 1926 in Bowie, TX to Samuel Dorman and Della Riaines Dorman. He attended high school in Bowie and enlisted in the Army upon graduation.
James is very proud of his Army service where he spent 19 months in overseas action. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon, one Bronze Service Star, occupation Ribbon, and a Purple Heart.
After the service, he joined the NASA Space Program where he spent his life until retirement in 1969. His major work was on the Apollo satellite.
After retirement, he moved to Salado, raising his children and enjoying his hobbies. He was an avid country and western dancer often times traveling to Waco and other parts of Texas to dance. The dance groups were like his family where he could enjoy sharing lives together.
He was also a Classic Truck enthusiast having owned many classics in the 1947-54 time period. He was a member of the Packard Club which meets annually in Salado.
James is preceded in death by his father and mother, sister Gerald Dean Benton, and sons James Jr and Jerry Dorman.
He is survived by his daughter Billie of Colorado Springs: 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter of Colorado: 7 great grandchildren and his brother, Elton Dorman of Arlington.
