Everett J. "Ike" Isakson Obituary


Born son of George and Dorothy Isakson on the family farm at Alta, Iowa on April 29, 1921. Everett attended Alta Consolidated School and Dale Elementary School in Chisago County, Minnesota through 8th grade. After staying out of school for 3 years during the Depression, Everett attended Braham High School, graduating as Salutatorian in 1941. After attending the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota for 2 years, he was activated by the Army Air Force in 1943. As a navigator on a B-24 in the 8th Air Force, he completed 35 combat missions in Europe. Returning to the School of Architecture in 1946, he received his architectural degree in June, 1948, where he served as an officer on the architectural student council and Alpha Rho Chi, the professional architectural fraternity.


He moved to Dallas, Texas in 1953 and served as officer in the Crossroads Class at the First Methodist Church and the Bachelors and Belles Club. He married Ruth Frances McMillen on June 2, 1956. He served on the board for nine years at Christ Methodist Church in Farmer’s Branch, Texas and later as chairman of the building committee. He and Ruth belonged to the Mr. and Mrs. Class at University Park United Methodist Church for 33 years holding a number of offices. As a parent of athletes, he followed Highland Park School sports for 17 years and served as treasurer of the Highland Park High School Sports Club. While their son, John, attended West Point, he was an officer in the Dallas West Point Parents Association. He retired in 1990 as in-house architect for the Lewisville, Texas School District.


Mr. and Mrs. Isakson moved to Salado, Texas in 1999. He was an avid writer and won prizes in the Barclay Literature Competition including first prizes in both fiction and non-fiction in 2009.


He is survived by wife, Ruth, son, Kyle, and wife, Teresa, of Grapevine, Texas, daughter, Jill, of McKinney, Texas and son, John, and wife, Marcia, of Cedar Park, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Theodore Isakson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota and sister, Frances Sommerfeld, of La Grange, California.


He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Grace, Nicholas, Katherine and Robert Everett Isakson.
