Mr. Care died early Sunday morning, October 21, at Odyssey Hospice in Corpus Christi with his wife of 52 years, Lorraine L. Care, and his eldest daughter, Deborah J. Sather, by his side.

Edgar, or Ed as he was known, was born in Toronto, Canada on March 31, 1937 to Richard Leslie and Florence Louise Care. He lived most of his childhood in Toronto and in 1954, his family relocated to East Providence, Rhode Island. In 1960, Ed became a U.S. citizen. Ed attended Brown University in Providence, R.I. and later graduated from Bryant College in 1960. On October 8, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine L. Dias.

Ed and Lorraine lived in Andover, Massachusetts until 1969 when they moved to Derry, New Hampshire. In 1975, they moved back to Andover and then to North Reading, Massachusetts in 1985. Upon retirement in 1996, they moved to Salado and had just recently moved to Port Aransas.

Ed worked for the Federal Government from 1960 – 1981, Bank of Boston from 1981 - 1996 and Wilsonart International from 1996 - 1999. While working, Ed earned a Master in Public Administration degree in 1980 from Suffolk University, Boston, Massachusetts and was a member of the Society for Public Affairs. Ed was a 50 year member, officer and past master of the St. Matthews Lodge AF&AM, a 32o Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner with Bektash Temple.

After retiring, Ed enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing golf and club making, and continued his lifelong love of learning and community involvement. Ed attended Temple College to learn to speak and read in Spanish. Ed served as President of the Men’s Golf Association of the Mill Creek Inn and Country Club; was a director of the Salado Lions; volunteered at Martha’s Kitchen; baked and delivered for Meals on Wheels; was a mentor to several youth in the Escalera and Salado Mentor programs and frequently worked at sporting events involving his oldest grandsons. In 2005, Ed published a book, “A Care Family History – Questions for a Grandfather” to remind children to talk to their parents about their ancestor’s lives and discover the persons behind the words Mom and Dad.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah J. Sather and her husband Steven B. Sather, and Pamela J. Care; five grandchildren, Max L. Care, Jeffrey L. Care, Tristan W. Bragg, Ellie S. Bragg and Townes C. Sather all of Salado.
