James Lively was born May 9, 1937 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Corpus Christi in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in1964 and completed his Radiology Residency in 1974 at Art Centre Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology in 1976.

Dr. Lively died on Tuesday, March 8 at home. Viewing for him will be at Broecker Funeral Home in Salado Saturday, March 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorial service and burial will be Seaside Memorial Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas Saturday, March 19 at 12:00 PM.

Dr. Lively was a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America. He served on the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners from 1985 to 1994. Dr. Lively received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Corpus Christi in 1974.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Salado. He served as a deacon and as minister of music in several Baptist churches in South Texas.

Dr. Lively is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; son, Dr. Andy Lively and his wife Karen of Tyler, Texas; grandsons, Joshua and Justin; daughter, Jeanie Lively of Salado; and sister, Dr.Judy Lively of Corpus Christi.
