Dawne Engelke Obituary

Dawnita A. Engelke, age 47, died Sunday, January 19, at her home in the presence of her husband and children.

Services for Dawne will be Wednesday, January 22 at the Presbyterian Church in Salado at 11:00AM with the Reverend Carl Thompson officiating. Visitation will precede the service starting at 9:30AM at the church. Interment will be private at the Salado Cemetery.

Dawne was born in Fort Sill, OK to Roger and Fran Brown Chandle. She was raised in the military life. She graduated from high school in El Paso.

On November 15, 1991 she married Donald Engelke and they moved to Salado. After spending years as a teacher’s aid, Dawne proceeded to obtain her LVN degree at CTC Nursing School in 2007 and worked for Scott and White Hospital and then Kings Daughters Clinic.

Dawne was a volunteer in many things but most important to her was her service to the Salado Volunteer Fire Department where she and Don spent many hours serving the community until she became ill.

She enjoyed camping, water and cruising. She also was a devout lover of Dr. Pepper.

Dawne contracted inflammatory breast cancer three years ago. She considers herself fortunate that she found a doctor that knew this type of cancer and began proper treatment. Her spirits were continually uplifted by many supporting family and friends who went out of their way to help her. She is very thankful for all the many prayers and blessing she received.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Salado for 6 years.

Dawne is survived by her husband, 3 children and her mother, father and step-parents, 2 sisters and 2 brother and 3 grand children.
