Carmen Rodriguez, 88, also lovingly known as “Momo”, passed
peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White in
Temple, Texas. On October 31, 1954, she married her love of her life,
late husband Placido Rodriguez, Sr. known as “Popo” and for the next
68 years they built their home and raised their family of seven in
Bartlett, Texas.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother which gave her
great joy. For more than 35 years, Carmen devoted her life to helping the
elderly population at the local nursing home as a certified nursing
assistant. Carmen also devoted 10 years in Bartlett’s family grocery
store business.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing at local bingo halls and cooking
special meals for her family. Some of the favorites included her carne
guisada, her famous empanadas, and homemade banana pudding.
Carmen was born September 29, 1935 in San Benito, Texas to Genaro
and Camila Tamez.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Genaro and
Camila Tamez; her husband, Placido Rodriguez, Sr.; her siblings:
Margarita Hernandez, Carlos Tamez, Abelardo “Lalo” Tamez, and
Ernesto Tamez, Sr.; and great granddaughter, Alexys Carrillo.
She is survived by her seven children: Sylvia Salazar, Sally Fuentes (Benny),
Placido Rodriguez, Jr. (late Judy), Alice Solis (Ricky), Benny Rodriguez
(Patsy), Jesse Rodriguez, Sr. (Belia), Melinda Anderson (Steven); 18
grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren. She also leaves behind great friends, many of whom she
spent time with playing bingo.
All services for Carmen “Momo” Rodriguez, will be held on Monday
October 9, 2023 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger,
Texas officiated by Rev. Hilario Guajardo. The visitation will begin at 9
a.m. followed by Rosary at 10 a.m. then funeral mass at 11 a.m. The
burial services will be immediately after at Holy Cross Cemetery in
Granger, Texas.
Pallbearers include her six grandsons: Justin Salazar, Brandon Salazar,
Eric Solis, Jesse Rodriguez Jr., Joshua Rodriguez, and Colton Anderson.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses
for the care and attention to Carmen while at Baylor Scott and White in
Temple, Texas.
