Anna Marie (Bertram) Aiken, 91, went home to Jesus on June 19, 2021. Anna was a force of nature -- a creative dynamo with a keen intellect and a generous spirit. She loved her husband Charlie, Chinese foo dogs and Big Red soda.
Anna was a community volunteer in Georgetown for many years. She served as a city council member, PTA president, and United Way chair. Her proudest accomplishment was the inception and nurturing of the Georgetown Public Library, where she remained a dedicated fundraiser, board member and advisor well into her 80s. She taught Sunday School at St. John’s United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Caring Place.
A native of West Columbia, Texas, Anna was high school valedictorian. She earned a degree from Sam Houston State University. She married Charles H. Aiken (Charlie) and they settled in Georgetown, where Charlie practiced veterinary medicine for more than 40 years. After their children were raised, Anna worked with Charles as a dog groomer, assistant, and receptionist.
Anna is survived by daughter Joy and partner Monte Mann, daughter Mary Lou Dupuis and husband Tim, and son Fred and wife Conny. She was preceded in death by Charlie and her sons John Edward (Eddie) and Ernest Gray (Ernie).
Services will be Saturday, June 26, at 11 am at St. Johns United Methodist Church, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Anna's name to the Georgetown Public Library.
