Services for William R. (Bill) Schleede, 94, will be Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. at Broecker Funeral Home in Salado with Reverend David Mosser officiating.
Family visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Bill passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at his home in Salado.
Bill was born September 15, 1924, in Salado to William R. Schleede and Mary Susan (Maye) Porter. He attended Salado schools and graduated as valedictorian of the 1942 class.
Bill attended Texas A & M for one year before leaving to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Ramah Lorraine McGuyer, on October 26, 1944. They were married for 63 years. After Bill's honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1946 at the end of WW2, the couple lived primarily in Bartlett, Temple and Salado.
Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bartlett. He served on the Board of Directors of the church and as treasurer for many years. While living in Bartlett, Bill also served on the city council, was a member of the Lion’s Club, and active in the Chamber of Commerce. He was owner of Bartlett Lumber Company, which he sold in 1969.
After moving to Temple, Bill partnered with his uncle, William Porter, to form Porter and Schleede Real Estate.They built custom and speculative homes.
During all this time, Bill was active in farming with his Dad. After retiring from real estate, he devoted most of time to his Salado farm. He and Ramah built a home on the farm in 2000, where he lived the rest of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister Marie Schleede Jackson, and his special friend Peggy Holt.
Survivors are daughters Janis Allen of New Braunfels and Cindy Clifton (Will) of Salado; grandchildren Heather Hildebrand of Seguin and Ryon (Lacey) Clifton of Salado; great grandchildren Kyle (currently serving in the U.S. Navy at the Navy Air Base at Whidbey Island, WA) and Kamryn Marshall; and Rook, Southern and CoBurn Clifton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salado Food Bank or Salado Cemetery.
Burial with military honors will be at the Salado Cemetery following the services.
