Louis R. Canales

Services for Louis R. Canales, 82, of Salado, Texas will be 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 13 at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Reverend Jude Uche officiating.  Burial will follow at Salado Cemetery, Baines Street, Salado, Texas.

Louis died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at University Village Memory Care, Round Rock, Texas.  He was born September 20, 1936 in Ecleto, Texas to Manuel and Espetacion Canales.

Louis graduated from the Department of Public Safety and served in law enforcement for over 34 years.  He, also, graduated from Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute in Texas. Louis served as Sergeant and Lieutenant at Port Lavaca Police Dept., Department of Public Safety; Rosenberg Police, Rosenberg, TX; Brookshire Police, Brookshire, TX as Chief of Police; Hedwig Village; Waller County Constable and Precinct 4 County Commissioner and Memorial Villages Police Department.  Louis retired from Memorial Village.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfredo.  His is survived by his wife, Jan Canales of Salado; sons: Burl Hagler and wife Jessica of Round Rock, Louis R. Canales Jr., of Austin, Eddie Canales and wife Nicole of Pattison; daughters: Diana Mosca and husband Mike, Cynthia Canales Magestro and husband Robert.  Louis has 8 grandchildren: Nicole Elizabeth, Michael Christian, Sydney Nicole, Zachary Edward,Matthew Coleson, Jack Lloyd, Raul Javier and Newton Garland; also, sister, Yolanda Rios and brother-in-law Ramiro Rios and brother-in-law Johnny Bratton and wife Jimmie of Salado and brother-in-law Jimmie and Aileen Bratton of Brady, Tx..

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Texas 3520 Executive Center Drive, Suite 140, Austin, TX 78731.

Visitation will be on March 12 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the funeral home.  A rosary will be prayed at 5:00 pm at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Salado.
