Carol Sanders Obituary

Carol Ann Sanders of Salado, Texas passed away at home on July 8, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas William Nichols and Dorothy Kathleen McKinney Nichols.  She is survived by her husband, Jerry Sanders of Salado;  daughter D'Ann Autrey and husband Chad of Salado; son Chris Sanders and wife Kim of Frisco; grandchildren Cory Bartek and Katelyn Bartek of Salado, Caroline Sanders and  Kate Sanders of Frisco; and brother Paul Nichols and wife Mamie of Bertram, TX.

Carol was born in Houston, Texas in Memorial Baptist Hospital on Dec. 21, 1944.  She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1963, and later attended Mary Hardin-Baylor College.  She married Jerry Sanders of Salado on July 31, 1965.  She worked for 26 years in education as a teachers' aide and librarian assistant for Goose Creek Consolidated I.S.D. and Belton I.S.D. until her retirement in 2002.  She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Baytown, and was currently a member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Salado.  She sang in the choir in both churches, and rang hand-bells and taught in Sunday School while at FBC in Baytown.

Carol was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and a friend to all in need of comfort and solace.  She devoted much of her life to the study of the Bible, and was greatly influenced by two godly grandmothers, Doris McKinney and Esther Nichols.  While in Cedar Valley Baptist Church, she served in the Samaritan's Purse ministry, and was also a regular member of a local Bible study group until she could no longer attend due to her progressing illness.  She was forever loving, caring, compassionate, and humble, all traits that others who knew her could easily see. Somehow, she always seemed to know the right things to say in any situation that required a special touch.  It was a gift from God.  She was a fighter, and fought the cancer that eventually took her life to the end.   Her greatest wish was for those who know not Christ to come to know Him so that the separation brought about by her passing might be only temporary.  She is waiting for us in Heaven with her Lord Jesus Christ right now.  She will be missed by many, and forever loved by all those who knew her.  She was, in a word, special.

****A memorial service will be held for Carol at Cedar Valley Baptist Church of Salado on Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 am.  The address of the church is 12237 FM2843 Salado, TX 76571.
