Harold “Beck” Atchley of Galveston, TX crossed over into the beautiful seas of heaven on December 17, 2017. He was with family by his side in Boerne, TX.

He was born August 15, 1926 to Otto Harold and Roxy Clemens Atchley in Texarkana, Texas and was the oldest of six siblings. When he was 16 years of age, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII where he served in the South Pacific. After the war, he studied at the University of Texas and the University of Houston. Following college, he became employed by Brown and Root as an engineer in Houston. He spent several years working abroad and had many colorful stories that he loved to tell about his adventures on his travels. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth on August 25, 1956. He was a proud father to two girls Stacy and Amy. He and Elizabeth raised their daughters in Houston and later moved to Friendswood while spending a lot of their time at their Galveston beach home.

Beck was a devoted husband and loving father and charmed many with his stories and one-of-a-kind ways. His true joy was fishing in the Galveston Bay where he was legendary across the island for his incredible tenacity, and luck and skill with catching the big one!  Up until the last couple of months of his life, he lived his final years where he wanted to be, at the family beach home in Galveston.

A charismatic character, Beck was a hardworking, gentle man with a gorgeous smile and a big laugh who easily won hearts over.  He appreciated the simple things of life and always said nothing is more important than family.  A man among men, he is loved by many and never forgotten.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lois Elizabeth Atchley; daughters, Stacy Elizabeth Frazier and Amy Rebecca Atchley; sons-in-law Colin William Frazier and James Elias Haslanger; and five grandchildren, Hunter Beck Frazier, Summer Elizabeth Frazier, Fischer William Frazier, Paris Olivia Haslanger, and Ellie Rhys “Lulu” Haslanger; sisters:  Mary Josephine “Sissy” Brown, Susie Elizabeth Shade, and bother Otto David “Bubba” Atchley. He was preceded in death by sister Billie Virginia Reeves and brother Baylor Wilson “Sonny” Atchley.
